A reference guide to common EOIR, USCIS, and immigration-related forms.

Record of Deportable / Inadmissible Alien
Expediente de un extranjero expulsable o inadmisible
The I-213 serves as DHS' and its sub-agencies' 'source of truth' regarding a given person that they consider deportable. The information in the 213 is used to create the NTA itself, and often comes up during immigration proceedings when an individual fails to appear for a hearing. At that point, the DHS representative present at court has to file an updated I-213 with the Court in order for the IJ to act upon a request for in absentia removal from DHS counsel for failure to appear.
Related terms: evidence, removal proceedings, inadmissibility, deportability
Official form/sourceNotice of Referral to Immigration Judge
Aviso de remisión ante un juez de inmigración
The I-863 is a less commonly used form than some; it is a sort of charging document, as it has a similar effect to an NTA, in that the named person is placed in EOIR proceedings. As per the relevant statute (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-8/chapter-I/subchapter-B/part-235/section-235.6), this can be, for example, following a credible fear interview, when credible fear is not found; when someone is suspected to be faking their legal status, and other situations, as well.
Related terms: credible fear, EOIR, charging document
Official form/sourceAdditional Charges of Inadmissibility / Deportability
Imputaciones adicionales de inadmisibilidad o expulsabilidad
The I-261 is used to add, amend, or otherwise modify the NTA in a given case. This can include adding new charges, correcting factual bases, or otherwise modifying the document. This is an entirely internal form; there don't even appear to be many images of it available online. It played an important role in the Saga of 'what is a notice to appear, anyway?'; for more on this, see Niz-Chavez, here: https://gringo.bingo/#/legal-authority
Related terms: notice to appear, NTA, charges, removal proceedings

Application for Advance Permission to Enter as a Nonimmigrant
Solicitud de permiso anticipado para entrar como no inmigrante
The I-192 is a document that might end up in a Record of Proceedings, but it's not commonly used inside the US. Instead, it is used most often in embassies or consulates abroad wherein someone is requesting that previous immigration history -- something that happened that made them 'inadmissible' -- be waived so that they may enter the country legally.
Related terms: waiver, inadmissibility, nonimmigrant
Official form/sourceNotice of Intent/Decision to Reinstate Prior Order
Aviso de intención o auto de restablecimiento de una orden previa
Yet another charging document, the I-871 is specific to the circumstances of someone who has previously been removed from the country, or at least, had an order of removal against them, left the country, and has entered the country again, and is thereby being placed in removal proceedings.
Arrival/Departure Record
Registro de llegada/salida
This is that piece of paper they give you on the airplane before you land. Or when you're paroled into the country. It's a record of someone entering or leaving the country if they're not a citizen.
Related terms: admission, parole, class of admission, authorized stay
Official form/sourceRequest for Social Security Earnings Information
Solicitud de información sobre ingresos registrados por el Seguro Social
Requests the record of earnings declared by, or attributable to, a particular individual.
Related terms: earnings record, Social Security, employment history, evidence
Official form/sourceNotice of Custody Determination
Notificación de determinación de custodia
An internal DHS document that serves as notice and declaration of a custody decision regarding an individual.
Related terms: bond, custody determination, detention, immigration judge
Application for Certificate of Citizenship
Solicitud de certificado de ciudadanía
Does what it says on the tin: this form requests a certification of citizenship. It doesn't change anything about the citizenship, merely serves to verify the citizenship exists.
Related terms: citizenship, derivative citizenship, acquisition of citizenship, certificate of citizenship, naturalization
