Comments:We have in both Spanish and English a wide variety of options to express shades of meanings surrounding status. If the speaker says "illegal", we can say "ilegal". If the speaker says "undocumented", we can say "indocumentado"; "without papers", "sin papeles"; "without status", "irregular", "sin condición (migratoria) legal".
