Temporary Protected Status (TPS)

English: Temporary Protected Status (TPS)

Spanish: (USA) estatus, (worldwide) condición, (Spain/EU) estatuto de protección temporal

Definition (English):—

Definition (Spanish):—

Comments:Interestingly, Spanish seems to have adopted 'temporal', probably through influence from English, in this instance, rather than for example 'provisional'. It is seen in the ACNUR manual, as well as in Directiva 2001/55/CE del Consejo, de 20 de julio de 2001. It is also broadly used by USCIS and within the United States. The recommended phrase would be 'condición de protección temporal', acknowledging that many here in the US are likely to call it 'estatus'. For more on the usage of 'estatuto', see resources from the Centro de Acogida a Refugiados, in Spain.
